Holy Shit!

From out of the blue, an absolutely kickASS-looking new sci-fi thriller from legendary film director Guillermo del Toro, and starring Charlie Hunnam of "Sons of Anarchy" and Deadfall fame, along with hauntingly lovely Rinko Kikuchi of "Norwegian Wood" fame (though THAT movie fell terribly short of the mind-blowingly brilliant book). Pacific Rim, set for a summer 2013 release, looks to revive the monster-disaster movie genre resuscitated by the wonderful Cloverfield, Monsters, The Thing, Prometheus and the lesser-known Korean hit The Host.

Even better, del Toro confirms that he's resuming work on his pet project, a Lovecraftian horror adventure game that nearly bit the dust when game developer THQ went under. Unfortunately, completion of that's still at least three years off.

In the meantime, enjoy the trailer for Pacific Rim:

And a bonus! Shhh, by the world's greatest H.P. Lovecraft tribute band, The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets:
